719 WALKER HILL ROAD – An exquisite, private retreat for artists, writers, nature-lovers, composers or simply as a quiet, serene getaway gathering house on 66 stunningly beautiful acres with stone walls, gardens, patios, open lawns, a beautiful swimming pond, in-ground heated saltwater pool with stone patio, and a breathtakingly beautiful outdoor screened pergola. The screened pergola features high ceilings, an indoor sitting area with woodstove, separate dining area, and a sweet outdoor porch-pergola deck overlooking the pond, gardens and fields. The residence was constructed using reclaimed frames from several historic hand-hewn New England cape homes (a barn from Albany, a residence in Boston and a cape “New London Toll House” from New Hampshire), and assembled on a modern foundation with modern structural support, heating systems, windows and cedar shake roofs - all in keeping with the spirit of the original homes. They were dismantled and redesigned and rebuilt  by 18th c specialist Architect Leigh Douglas Johnson. The home features antique period door hardware, hinges and locks throughout - and hand hewn beams and wall panel boards (some are 2 feet wide). The reproduction lighting fixtures were hand-made by Gates Moore, (with hidden/invisible wiring), and pewter lights by Authentic Designs. Other features include 12-over-12 wavy glass windows, dutch doors (pantry and study), three fireplaces and two wood stoves, and soapstone sink and counters in the kitchen. The home features three bedrooms, five baths, living room, kitchen, formal dining room, sitting room, rec room and two offices. The stone wine cellar in the basement features a see-through floor-window visible in the kitchen floor. Across the lawn is a finished/heated “studio” building with a half-bath, and is currently being used as a pottery studio. Excellent mechanicals include buried electrical lines, fiber optic internet/phone/tv, a solar array and an automatic propane backup generator. The mature gardens feature landscape lighting and many varieties of flowers, apple trees and blueberry bushes, attracting bees and hummingbirds. 64 of the 66 acres of land are professionally managed in a Current Land Use program (saving taxes too), including walking trails. And the property abuts the Hawks Hill Demonstration Forest and trail network.
